Out Of The Technology Loop….
Am I the only person in the legal world without a Blackberry or iPhone? Seriously? I am surrounded all day by people checking their emails and asking me if I got their email while I was at lunch. People, my phone doesn't even have a "typepad" (if that's what you call it). I have a good 'ol standard flip phone with numbers. My phone is so old that the Verizon store actually called my husband to let us know that I was overdue on my updgrade by more than a year. Ha! I have friends who count down the day until they can get their "new" phone, and here I am, hanging on to my oldie, but goodie.
I really am not a fan of technology. I recently got a Macbook, and the shock of the experience nearly killed me, and almost ruined my marriage (just kidding on that last part, although, I do think my husband got sick of me keeping a running list of things I didn't understand about Macs so that I could ask him about it when he got home from work...true story).
I am also having this running debate with fellow LSJ pal, Christy, about her love of e-readers. She swears by them, and I think they are a sign of the apocolypse. I love books, real books. I love opening a book from the library knowing that hundreds of others have read the same pages. I like opening my own books to find an old picture I used as a bookmark the last time I read the book or seeing the handwritten message inside the cover from the giver of the book. I love it all and refuse to give it all up for a computer screen.
I may be a slow learner when it comes to technology and a bit stubborn to give into change, but I am realizing that I may need to start getting plugged into the legal technology world. I really think I need to get email on my phone. I've dreaded the day, because I know I will become addicted, but I think it may be time. The problem is, I have no idea where to start or even any idea about what's out there for law students or lawyers. Luckily, I stumbled upon The Law Pod. I had no idea there was so much out there technology-wise, but I guess I should have known, there seems to be an app for everything these days.... see I'm already starting to use the lingo.
Here's hoping I can get caught up......
